MLB trade deadline tracker: Live rumors, news, updates before 2025 deadline

JUMP TO: Latest MLB trade deadline news MLB trade details by team Best players available at 2025 deadline It's officially crunch time for MLB clubs to make last-minute additions. The 2025 MLB trade deadline arrives at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, marking the last opportunity for teams to either go all-in on a playoff push or sell on high-end talent with their eyes on the future. This year, there aren't too many true superstars known to be available on what's become a seller's market, but there are still some captivating names who could be on the move. In the National League, expect teams like the Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Cubs, and Brewers to stock up on talent, especially in their bullpens, as they trend toward locking in playoff spots. In the American League, two division races could come down to deadline additions, as the AL East remains tight between the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Red Sox, while the Rangers and Mariners are eyeing the Astros' lead in the AL West. The teams that choose to heavily sell could also wind up as huge deadline winners. Will the Orioles (47-58) bite on offers for Ramon Laureano or Cedric Mullins? Could the Diamondbacks (51-55) focus on 2026 by selling on Eugenio Suarez, Merrill Kelly, or Zac Gallen? With a flurry of trades on the way across the league, it will be easy to lose track of who's going where. The Sporting News is tracking live updates on every deal and the latest rumors leading up to the 2025 MLB trade deadline. Follow along with it all below. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp MLB trade deadline tracker 2025: Live news, updates and rumors Blue Jays acquire RHP Seranthony Dominguez from Orioles Date: July 29 Source: Mitch Bannon The Athletic's Mitch Bannon reports that Toronto is trading for reliever Seranthony Dominguez from Baltimore, sending back pitching prospect Juaron Watts-Brown. Dominguez has a 3.24 ERA and 54 strikeouts across 41.2 innings this season. Dylan Cease a 'prime target' of Astros Date: July 29 Source: The Athletic Padres SP Dylan Cease is a "prime target" of the Astros, according to The Athletic, with Houston desperate for starting pitching after being hit hard by injuries. Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown have both been excellent this season, but the rest of the Astros' rotation has been a revolving door. With the Padres willing to listen on Cease, Houston will be a team to watch leading up to Thursday's deadline. Sandy Alcantara market 'picking up drastically' Date: July 29 Source: Jim Bowden It's been unclear whether the Marlins would move on from their former Cy Young award winner, Sandy Alcantara, who has struggled this season. But Jim Bowden of CBS Sports and The Athletic reported Tuesday that the market for Alcantara is "picking up drastically," with a "real chance" the pitcher is moved before the deadline. Padres, Phillies, Mets among suitors for Luis Robert Jr. Date: July 29 Source: Ken Rosenthal The White Sox have long been rumored to have interest in selling on outfielder Luis Robert Jr., and on Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal wrote that San Diego, Philadelphia and New York are the "prospective suitors" for Robert. He added that teams are also virtually calling the White Sox's bluff in attempting to not giving up high-end prospects in a potential deal. Blue Jays have talked to Pirates about bullpen additions Date: July 29 Source: Jon Morosi Pittsburgh's David Bednar and Dennis Santana have been frequently mentioned as top bullpen trade candidates, and MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported Tuesday that the Blue Jays "have discussed trade possibilities that would involve a reliever going to Toronto" with the Pirates. Toronto sits atop the AL East with a 63-44 record. Nolan Arenado has come up in Astros-Cardinals trade talks Date: July 29 Source: Jon Morosi Star third baseman Nolan Arenado, who was highly expected to be traded in the offseason but remained in St. Louis, has come up in talks between the Cardinals and Astros, MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported. However, there "no momentum" toward a deal yet. Arenado is hitting .235 with 10 home runs this season. Padres won't be 'pure sellers,' but could sell to help current team Date: July 29 Source: Ken Rosenthal The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal said Tuesday that San Diego, which sits at 58-49 and trails the Dodgers in the NL West by four games, will only sell "if it enabled them to get other pieces" that would help them in their 2025 playoff push. "They're not pure sellers," Rosenthal said, mentioning Dylan Cease as a potential trade candidate if they do choose to re-tool by selling. Emmanuel Clase situation 'ended any chance' of Guardians buying at deadline Date: July 29 Source: Ken Rosenthal The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports that with Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase being put on the restricted list due to a gambling investigation, that effectively "ended any chance" of Cleveland buying at the deadline. Rosenthal added that the Guardians basically "know" they won't be a playoff team with the ongoing investigations into their relievers, but they would have considered buying before. Rosenthal also added in a piece for The Athletic that Cleveland is drawing "a ton of interest" in All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan, with the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Phillies and Padres believed to be in the mix. However, the Guardians would "set a high bar" for a potential return due to Kwan's age, club control and track record as an All-Star. Tigers bolstering pitching staff with Twins' Chris Paddack, Randy Dobnak Date: July 28 Source: Detroit Tigers Detroit is trading C/1B prospect Enrique Jimenez for two Twins pitchers, Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak. As the Tigers compete for the AL's best record, Paddack (111.0 innings, 4.95 ERA) will be an innings-eater on the back end of their rotation, while Dobnak (5.1 innings, 1.69 ERA) will report to Triple-A as a depth option. The Tigers' move for pitching comes as Reese Olson, who had a 3.15 ERA in 13 starts this season, went down with a right shoulder strain that could end his 2025 regular season. Rays acquire new catcher to replace Jansen from Marlins Date: July 28 Source: Miami Marlins As the Rays send out Danny Jansen, they're also trading for a new catcher, sending out prospect Matthew Etzel for Marlins backstop Nick Fortes. Augustin Ramirez had taken over as Miami's starting catcher, allowing them to flip Fortes, a stronger defender than hitter with a career .225 average. Brewers trading for Rays catcher Danny Jansen Date: July 28 Source: Milwaukee Brewers Milwaukee added some power to its lineup and catching depth, acquiring Danny Jansen from the Rays. In exchange, the Brewers are sending out infielder Jadher Areinamo. Jansen has hit 11 home runs while batting .204 this season. Braves acquire veteran RHP Carlos Carrasco from Yankees Date: July 28 Source: New York Yankees Atlanta traded for Carlos Carrasco from the Yankees in exchange for cash considerations. The 38-year-old Carrasco, along with Erik Fedde, will help fill vacant roles in the Braves' rotation due to injuries. Royals, Seth Lugo agree to contract extension that takes him off trade market Date: July 27 Source: Kansas City Royals Kansas City starter Seth Lugo had been mentioned as a trade candidate despite the team hovering around .500, but on Sunday, the pitcher signed a new multi-year extension that will keep him with the team through 2027. Lugo, who owns a 2.95 ERA in 113 innings in 2025, comes off the trade market to remain with the Royals for the long-term. Braves add RHP Erick Fedde Date: July 27 Source: Atlanta Braves The Cardinals traded right-hander Erick Fedde to Atlanta for a player to be named later or cash. Per ESPN, St. Louis will cover "the majority of what remains of Fedde's $7.5 million salary for 2025." Fedde is an impending free agent who has struggled this season, owning a 5.22 ERA and 3-10 record. However, he did have a strong 2024 season between Chicago and St. Louis, and the Braves could use starting pitching right now with ongoing injuries to AJ Smith-Shawver, Spencer Schwellenbach, Chris Sale, and more. Royals acquire OF Randal Grichuk from Diamondbacks Date: July 26 Source:Jon Heyman Kansas City traded for outfielder Randal Grichuk from Arizona in exchange for Triple-A RHP Andrew Hoffmann on Saturday. Grichuk, a 12-year veteran, has hit .240 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs this season for the Diamondbacks. Amed Rosario heading from Nationals to Yankees Date: July 26 Source: Washington Nationals After already acquiring Ryan McMahon, the Yankees got another infielder by trading for Washington's Amed Rosario. New York sent the Nationals prospects Clayton Beeter and Browm Martinez. Rosario, a former top prospect with the Mets, is batting .270 with five home runs and a .736 OPS this season. Most of his damage has been done against left-handed pitchers, so the Yankees will likely deploy him in lineups against lefties more often. Yankees acquire infielder Ryan McMahon from Rockies Date: July 25 Source: Mark Feinsand The Yankees traded pitching prospects Griffin Herring and Josh Grosz in exchange for Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon on Friday. McMahon, who is under contract for two more seasons, has hit 16 home runs this season and also provides New York with strong defense at third base. The left-handed hitter has totaled at least 20 homers in every season since 2021. Mets trade for Orioles reliever Gregory Soto Date: July 25 Source: New York Mets New York made an addition to its bullpen by acquiring LHP Gregory Soto from Baltimore on Friday. In exchange, the Mets traded pitching prospects Wellington Aracena and Cameron Foster. Soto, 30, is a former two-time All-Star who hasn't been quite as excellent in recent seasons, but he has totaled a 3.96 ERA with 44 strikeouts for the Orioles this season. Diamondbacks send 1B Josh Naylor to Mariners Date: July 25 Source: Mark Feinsand As Seattle competes for either the AL West crown or a wild card spot, it bolstered its lineup, trading for Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor while sending out prospects Brandyn Garcia and Ashton Izzi. Naylor has hit .292 this season with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs. He'll add to a Mariners offense that could use some more power behind slugging catcher Cal Raleigh. Morecambe facing National League expulsion amid financial woes

Morecambe face expulsion from English football's league pyramid after the fifth-tier National League suspended the Lancashire-based club with immediate effect because of their dire financial position. In a short statement, the league said its Compliance and Licensing Committee had met on Monday afternoon to debate Morecambe's ability to start the season. Advertisement The club have been in football's Emergency Room for years but the crisis has deepened in recent weeks after a protracted takeover by London-based sports investment company Panjab Warriors stalled and a new potential buyer emerged. With Morecambe already under a transfer embargo, the National League announced on Friday that it was effectively giving current owner Bond Group Investments until noon to sell the club. But that deadline came and went, giving the league no option but to suspend the club until August 20, which means their first three fixtures of the new season — away at Boston United, home to Brackley Town and away at Scunthorpe — are postponed. Whether they will ever be rescheduled is now up to Bond Group Investments owner Jason Whittingham. 'The club will also remain under embargo ahead of the new season,' the National League statement added. 'Morecambe will also be removed from the National League Cup for the forthcoming season. 'The committee will meet again on Wednesday, August 20, to determine if outstanding items have been satisfied, and to decide the club's ability to retain membership in the competition.' That last sentence is particularly ominous as it is the same threat Bury FC received from the English Football League (EFL) when they were prevented from starting the 2019-20 season in League One. They were expelled from the EFL on August 27, 2019, becoming their first team to suffer that fate since Maidstone Town in 1992. Bury went into administration a year later, with some fans forming a phoenix club. However, the original club was revived in 2023, after a merger with the new team, and they are now back in the seventh tier of English football. The fate of Macclesfield Town is another worrying precedent for Morecambe fans, as the Cheshire-based club were relegated from League Two in 2020 in the same state of financial disarray as Morecambe have been in but were not allowed to start the National League season and soon collapsed. A local businessman bought the assets later that year and restarted the club as Macclesfield FC in the ninth tier in 2021. They have now climbed back to the sixth tier. Advertisement Morecambe fans will be hoping they can still avoid having to take this journey but the prospects do not look good. Bond Group Investments bought the club in 2018 but has been missing payments to players and the taxman ever since 2023, which was a year after their rugby union club Worcester Warriors went bankrupt. Whittingham has repeatedly said that he wants to sell the loss-making club but spent almost a year trying to sell it to a Birmingham-based businessman called Sarbjot Johal, before moving on to Panjab Warriors. Unlike Johal, they were approved by the EFL in June and have been funding the club via loans for most of this year. But, having missed several deadlines to complete the takeover, Whittingham reneged on the deal. Panjab immediately announced it was taking legal action against him and both sides appear to be dug in for a long fight. In the meantime, Whittingham announced that he was in talks with a new group led by a British businessman called Jonny Cato. The Athletic has attempted to find out more details about this individual with no success. However, it now seems that even Cato has got cold feet, as Whittingham issued a statement via the club to say that he cannot get in contact with Panjab Warriors and adverse publicity has scared Cato's group off. The club's supporters and local politicians have no doubt as to who is to blame, though, with Whittingham being public enemy number one. The Athletic has asked him for comment on a number of occasions but without reply.

MLB trade deadline: Reds' Terry Francona's only focus is winning with the current players

Once the MLB trade market got going ahead of the July 31 deadline (6 p.m. ET), it really got going. The Seattle Mariners on July 24, made what felt like the first big move of the annual trading frenzy, and that seemed to serve as prelude to more big moves across baseball July 25. Both New York clubs made moves, with the Yankees acquiring Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon and the Mets grabbing left-handed reliever Gregory Soto. Also, more hype and conversation built up around former Reds slugger Eugenio Suarez's status (he's still an Arizona Diamondbacks player for now). Reds starting rotation Nick Lodolo 'Huge': How Cincinnati Reds Nick Lodolo went from IL regular to playoff-minded workhorse Reds starting rotation Chase Burns Can Chase Burns grow into key for Cincinnati Reds down stretch? 'That's the goal' The Cincinnati Reds (53-50), now at two games back of the third National League Wild Card spot entering play of July 25, haven't made a move yet. It remains to be seen if and how the Reds might involve themselves in the trade-deadline activity. One thing is almost guaranteed for the Reds regardless of whether they make moves or not: As dominoes continue to fall in the trade market, the Reds clubhouse will endure a potentially tense period as players wait to see how any possible moves might affect their lives. Reds manager Terry Francona said he's trying to keep the focus on the actual games in order to try to head off some of the likely tension ahead of deadline day. "I think when you know you're like a seller, there can be distractions," Francona said. "I get it. I mean, you're uprooting people's lives and their families. I think the more you can just keep it on baseball, the better everybody is. What I care about is us winning. Those guys upstairs (in the front office), I know they're making phone calls like every team does. For probably for every hundred or 200 things you hear about, one happens, so I think you're better off just trying to win." While the Reds are within striking distance of the Wild Card places in the standings, and there's ample incentive for Cincinnati to legitimately chase those positions in every way possible, Francona said he concerns himself primarily with his players. You won't see or hear Francona stumping for a move between now and when the trade window closes. "I like our guys. I think I've been pretty open about that," Francona said. "You'll never hear me say, 'we need this' or 'we need that' because I think it's directly saying that somebody out there (in the clubhouse) isn't good enough. I'll never do that... My responsibility is these guys in this room and I'll keep it that way." This article originally appeared on Cincinnati Enquirer: MLB trade deadline: Reds' Terry Francona's only focus is winning

Kyle Schwarber makes history with fifth inning homerun against Yankees

July has been kind to Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies. He made the All-Star game and eventually won the MVP of the game, as he helped the National League in the "swing off" to finish the game. Now, Schwarber has made history. The 32-year-old went deep in the top of the fifth inning at Yankee Stadium to tie the game at 2-2. The home run was not just any home run. First, it was his 35th home run of the season. Second, it was his 1000th hit of his career. MORE: The New York Yankees acquire third basemen Ryan McMahon from Colorado Rockies With 1,000 hits, Schwarber makes it 57 active players in Major League Baseball to reach the number. Amed Rosario, Shohei Ohtani and Yasmani Grandal are next on the line. Schwarber also has reached 319 home runs, which is the most within a player's first 1,000 hits. That surpasses Mark McGwire's 311, according to Sarah Langs. The game was 2-0 when Schwarber tied it, as Cody Bellinger and Austin Wells both hit solo home runs. Philadelphia came into the game with a 58-44 record, which was 1/2 game behind the New York Mets in the National League East. Eugenio Suárez continues homer binge for D-backs, goes deep for 5th time in 3 games

Eugenio Suárez continued his power surge for the Arizona Diamondbacks by hitting his fifth home run in the past three games–a solo shot against the Houston Astros on Monday night. The 34-year-old Suárez–who is one of baseball's most coveted bats as the Aug. 1 trade deadline approaches–leads the National League with 36 homers. He was named the NL Player of the Week for the fourth time this season earlier Monday. Suárez hit two homers against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday and again on Sunday. The All-Star third baseman is also the third D-backs player to hit seven homers over a six-game span joining Reggie Sanders (2001) and J.D. Martinez (2017). He's the first to accomplish the feat in the big leagues since Aaron Judge in 2024. Suárez–who is a free agent this offseason–has long been considered one of the top sluggers on the market for prospective buyers at the deadline. But it's unclear if the D-backs will be willing to trade Suárez since they came into Monday's game on the fringes of playoff contention with a 50-50 record.
